Would The GOP's Palin Gamble Still Hold?

Primarily, Senator John McCain’s and that of the GOP’s bid to retain the US presidency is in great jeopardy at this moment. The main question arising now is whether or not Alaska governor Sarah Palin could weather the media storm that had befell the Republican Party side ever since she announced her 17 year old daughter’s pregnancy to the public. It’s a case for Murphy---just when they would have thought that nothing could go wrong, something did.

Imagine that Palin is from Alaska and we all know that Alaska does not really get anybody’s attention and interest except for polar bears and melting ice caps. That was the main gamble, Palin being a complete nobody.

But she’s personable enough to withstand that anonymity, as Sen. McCain would hope and I think that’s a fair chance. But despite of this apprehension, the pregnancy issue comes forth. I could almost feel the headache on every Republican Party strategist.

So there’s hope. That’s what is important now. Let us say that ‘nobody’s perfect’ and that this is a ‘brave new world’ where acceptability of norms and mores just got widened and besides, America ought to be the broadest-minded nation in the whole world.

Yet in politics, every candidate should be ‘perfect’. That should be a cardinal rule; to be perfect even if they have to lie or become hypocritical. It’s a jungle ought there.

Now I am reminded by Joe Kelin’s “Primary Colors”. Just when I thought that that the political election book was such a clever and very dramatic work, it pales in comparison to the drama and twists of this year’s US elections.

  1. I think McCain is boosting his pogi points by getting a female as VP running mate. That's obvious but not necessarily wrong nor imprudent.

Now as far as Palin's 17 year old daughter being pregnant - Americans are enlightened enough to understand her predicament. Heck Palin is also a human being like anyone and subject to such trials in life. Frankly, I don't think it will affect Republican votes significantly as people suspect.

  3. I may be stupid because I can't, for the life of me, understand why they are raising so much fuss about Palin's pregnant teenager daughter. It's as if it were Palin herself who is pregnant by a man not her husband!

I certainly don't encourage teenage pregnancy but c'mon, this is no longer the age for witch hunting.

  4. Whoever Pops McCain picked is irrelevant. Palin remains to be seen if she can help or McCain's downfall. Fact of the matter is, republicans are just deep rooted, right-wingers who are rarely swayed by the left. Even the so-called "modern south" will be forever christian rights and the notion that they're changing colors is a hoax. The residue or the remnants of bigotry in those southern states will not change. Didn't watched the full RNC but had a glimpsed and I had to chuckle looking at those predominantly white delegates, survey was 95 percent of them. That convention says a lot.
If McCain wins, in four years, he'll be stooping, walking with a cane, and by then he will be McCane. Cheers!

  5. To BW: That would be a relief for Sen. McCain. But I felt it did some dent on their campaign. But of course, we ain't gonna be judgmental or forceful upon others. And that's just my view.

  7. To bugsybee: As I said, we can't be judgmental here but in politics, that's just the way it is. One is always in the eye of the storm or so it seems.

  8. To TruBlue: Strongs words of observation there. I hope mudslinging won't be the theme of this year's elections in America.

  9. That's one I hate in politics, using people for campaign. Why can't politicians be honest and objective? Not a healthy campaign seems an closely oxymoron!

  10. The Democrats and their allies in the mainstream US media risk facing a backlash among voters with the manner that they've been bashing Sarah Palin and her family. It is quite unfortunate that women's groups such as NOW (National Organization of Women) refuse to support her because even though she's a feminist, she's a CONSERVATIVE feminist. NOW only supports liberal feminists.

The discussions and debates should focus on the issues and not on a candidate's family. Unfortunately, there are hysterical members of the "angry left" in the US who would rather resort to personal attacks and mudslinging rather than defend their stands on issues that affect American life and foreign policy.

  11. Parang when McCain and Palin were together on stage, parang they just met for the first time no?

  12. To haze: Nothing is sacredin politics that's seems to be the rule, not even in America or so it seems.

  13. To Panaderos: That seems to be happening now as Ms. palin seem to gain her ground against those media attacks, like a boomerang. And now Sen. McCain is leading Se. Obama by 4 points in the latest polls.

  14. To Toe: That I've noticed too. They need to get more acquainted now if there's enough time for that with 50 days or so to go before election day over there.
