October 4, 2007This is a first for me---tagged twice for the same meme, almost at the same time. First by Momoftwo, and then by Ipanema.
The tag calls for a screenshot of one’s own desktop, including all the possible icons thereon. For a complete instruction, please read this:
A. Upon receiving this tag, immediately perform a screen capture of your
desktop. It is best that no icons be deleted before the screen capture so as to
add to the element of fun.
You can do a screen capture by:
For MAC users: Press [ Apple] [ Ctrl ] [ Shift ] and [ 3 ]
B. Post the picture in your blog. You can also give a short explanation on the
look of your desktop just below it if you want. You can explain why you
preferred such look or why is it full of icons. Things like that.
C. Tag five of your friends and ask them to give you a Free View of their
desktop as well.
My desktop is the simplest of all desktop and there is a reason for this. One computer-savvy friend once had advised me to put up all useful icons on a designated taskbar in order that working on or with the computer would be much more efficient and uncluttered. So there are icons here that is not included in the screen capture since it pops out and goes out according to the cursor’s movement.
I share this computer with my kids that’s why you’d see the Red Alert icon there twice over as well as that of Nester’s. With the eldest only at 8 years old, that’s all they are about to play at this time. No Counterstrike or Ran for now. They can be so voracious in using the computer for games that we’ d be in a “shouting” argument for this. Of course, the kids win these “shouting” arguments almost all the time, unless their mama comes over and explain why they should be better off studying than be stuck on the computer on school days.
Of course, you’d see the Scrabout game icon on the desktop since it is my most favorite computer pastime especially when Internet on my dial-up would be so slow at times. I play Scrabout while waiting for the pages to load.
There’s the Coolpool icon also appearing. I don’t exactly know why since I think I have gotten over this game a long time ago. Maybe the kids are getting smarter these days that they can get every shortcut on the desktop.
All the rest are the default folders including some temporary folders that I input all files I have gotten from the net in a particular period, mostly design files that I often download.
There’s the Mozilla icon as well as IE version 6. And then there’s that golf game icon patch that I tried to download a bout a week ago but couldn’t finish it thoroughly since it was such a voluminous file.
For this one, I’d be so interested to know what’s on the desktop of Buffwings, Eric, Bingskee, Pining and Niceheart.

cool dad for sharing your pc with your kids.
Sidney says; October 4, 2007 @ 3:38 pm
I agree, cool dad! I don't like to share my computer !
pining says; October 4, 2007 @ 7:43 pm
First of all, thanks for the tag Major Tom, MOMoftwo tagged me with this too, so snap!
Minimalist ka rin pala a...

To beatburn & Sidney: Thanks. Well, I've got to since the kids are so makulit and I only have this computer that had been here for me for nearly 5 years. Me and my wife is thinking of upgrading this this by end of year and our worry is that with a more powerful computer, there'd be more games to play and the kids would be so makulit when the time comes. Maybe we just need to input some disciplinary rules.

To pining: I think minimalist is what best described my taste aside from the reason that keeping a very small amount of icons on the desktop would make the computer perform to the maximum, especially when it is not exactly Pentium 4 kind of stuff.

Thanks for doing the tag. I like the idea of putting the icons on the taskbar. I will talk to the hubs about it, ours too cluttered hehe. What's that yellow face on your desktop?
Major Tom says; October 5, 2007 @ 5:37 am
To momoftwo: I enjoyed doing it and it was my pleasure.
Oh, the funny looking "yellow face" is for Nester. It is a computer game program that allows one to play old Nintendo games. I had this on the PC for the kids since they are still so young to play the usual PC games some years ago. Now, they know already how to play Red Alert even more complicated ones like Counterstrike. But I am trying not to encourage them to play these PC games too much for they may interfere with their scholastic pursuits.

To momoftwo: And note that under the "yellow face" is actually written the name "Conterstrike" (sic) while it's really Nester. The kids tinker with the desktop all the time when left alone..tsk..tsk..

Hehe. I just did this meme too . Nobody tagged me. I just grabbed it from Snglguy's blog.
Cool desktop!
niceheart says; October 5, 2007 @ 11:55 am
Thanks for tagging me.
I also have just a few icons on my desktop. I guess I am a minimalist (yun pala tawag duon) like you. We all share one computer here at home. But the husband and the kids have their own accounts/desktops. So we have our own different icons.
verns says; October 5, 2007 @ 4:03 pm
Hey Dad! Buy new computers for the kids hahaha
Anyway pretty neat desktop..:)
snglguy says; October 5, 2007 @ 5:00 pm
Good thing your kids didn't put up a Red Alert wallpaper, otherwise, it'll be like they have to computer for themselves. Ay buti na lang wala akong ka-share sa laptop ko, hehe
Major Tom says; October 5, 2007 @ 5:24 pm
To rhodora: I like the color blue so much that's why i chose this clean look.
Major Tom says; October 5, 2007 @ 5:26 pm
To niceheart: Oo nga no; we can have different accounts para ang files hindi ma-aafect in any way. I'll try that soonest time possible.
Major Tom says; October 5, 2007 @ 5:32 pm
To verns: ha..ha.., oo nga no. Actually, we are planning to buy one about a month from now. Before, I advised against it kasi yung mga bata games ng games na lang ang gagawain pag mas malakas ang CPU. But I think, it's about time to get a new one.
Major Tom says; October 5, 2007 @ 5:34 pm
To sngl: That would have been good kaya lang I don't know know how to put it up. I must admit that I was a Red Alert addict long before the kids knew how to play them. With a new cdomputer coming up, pwede na siguro ako magsubsob sa Generals Command & Conquer.

The minimalist template is so neat! So is your desktop, Major Tom, with its geometric masculine theme.
