The Nuclear Debacle In Iran

East of Iraq is the new hottest point in global politics. Every nation that matters seem to be highly involved in the debacle over Iran’s alleged use of nuclear technology to build and develop weapons of ultimate destruction—a kind of bomb that could decimate an entire population in minutes time. This must be how the sum of all of our fearslook and feel like. The boiling issue over there reminds me of Tom Clancy and the kind of fictions he make. I sure hope that this time, reality wouldn’t follow fiction —or life imitating art—as in the case of Stardust (that space voyager who made many scientists’ dream come true).

Like in a sprawling Clancy novel, everyone seems to be involved in this. America has long been a critic of Iran’s nuclear initiatives, especially now with the rise of an outspoken Iran leadership headed by the peculiar and highly unpredictable Mahmoud Ahmadinejad . When Iran decided to restart its nuclear program by activating a once sealed-off uranium enrichment facility last week, the EU3 (France, Britain and Germany) hit the panic button and America immediately suggested the imposition of sanctions. China and Russia (as well as the EU3) did not respond well to the sanction propositions, while reminding America that such actions were not as effective in Iraq and North Korea. By the way, China sourced some 12% of its oil from Tehran and Russia has a billion dollar stake in a nuclear reactor. Iran did not waste time in warning everyone that blocking Tehran from the trade routes would result into a humongous oil crisis, one the world has never seen or experienced before. Now wait a minute says the EU3, the whole mess could be resolved thru determined diplomacy and a meeting to tackle this particular issue has been set at the beginning of February. Yet, Britain insisted that the nuclear debacle in Iran should be brought before the attention of the United Nation Security Council.

The moment I heard the thing about the U.N. Security Council, I was eerily reminded to those scenes happening just days before America unleashed those hellish firestorms over Baghdad. I just hope that this time, there’d be no such thing. Iran is not Iraq. It is an entirely different scenario thereat and entirely different sphere altogether. Invading Iran would be so difficult and would certainly throw the whole economic world into a swirling tailspin; the moment oil supply would be cut so radically and so suddenly.

  1. The reason why Iran is in a frenzy to build a nuclear arsenal is because of the Bush administrations’sabre rattling. The religious leaders that actually govern the country believe that Iran is Pres. Bush’s next target.

The scary part is….The new Iranian leader has this ambition to rid the world of infidels and the country has the money to buy all those old nuclear stockpile of the old Soviet empire if they can’t make in themselves for lack of technology.

  2. That must have been the reason snglguy. There is always that perception that the Bush Administration is so trigger happy that every nation that comes in its way, one way or another, would surely have reasons to be rattled.

The new Iranian leader to me adds up to the problem with his egostistical views and often provocative tongue. He could surely add flames to conflicts…
